As Americans, it is extremely hard to gauge what our worldwide perception is right now. We know that tourism across most countries coming to America has steeply fallen, but for America to poll so close to Russia in general unpopularity is insane.
I didn’t think we’d ever be here because of Trump, I thought our global imperialism would do that but I guess not. Let’s dive into the newest data we have that shows us how wildly unpopular we really are.
The 2025 Democracy Perception Index puts together the thoughts people have towards sovereignty, geopolitics and global powers. They canvass more than 110,00 respondents across 100 countries.
China is more popular than the US, ranking at 14% favorability while US ranks -5% and Russia -9%. America’s reputation took a huge hit in EU countries, with Trump being called “horrible, pathetic and formed to screw the US.”
Countries who have historically been our allies, like Canada, France, Portugal, and Italy now view China more favorably than the US. For the first time on record, most places in the research results actually see China as more favorable.
The survey also showed that Trump is less popular than Putin and XiJinping. Actually, Trump has recorded the worst score among a range of political, cultural and spiritual leaders which includes people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, the late Pope Francis, and other people.
Israel also had the worst global reputation of the countries included int he poll, especially in the Middle East and South Asia. Israel is unpopular in Europe, especially in countries like Germany. This global destain has hiked up since Israel’s ongoing onslaught against Gaza/the West Bank.
This isn’t just a simple PR crisis; it’s a reckoning.
The world isn’t buying into the old myth of American perfectionism anymore, and frankly, why should they? From our endless wars to our domestic meddling, we’ve shown the world a version of America that’s petty, divided, and often cruel.
Trump’s legacy may have accelerated the decline, but it didn’t start with him and it won’t end with him either. If we’re now trailing behind China in global favorability and losing respect even from our closest allies, we should stop asking “how did this happen?” and start asking where we went wrong in the first place.
Hey, don't put it all on Trump regarding American standing in the EU and UK. Vance stunk the place out too
Blame it on Musk as well
