If you would’ve told me a couple months ago that Trump and Elon’s friendship would fade away quietly I would’ve actually believed you.
Trump has the tendency of ruining his friendships, firing people, and burning bridges.
It first came to light when he lost the Trump University case because he scammed a bunch of poor people who believed he would teach them how to become rich. The rest is history.

Donald Trump effectively gave a non-American billionaire unlimited access to do whatever he pleased with the federal government in the name of “saving money and cutting costs”. Well, it was a disaster and now they don’t even publicly associate with each other.
Trump has completely stopped mentioning Elon on Truth Social.
He was once posting about Elon an average of four times a week in February and March. He hasn’t mentioned him once since April.
Elon hasn’t posted about Trump either since early April even though he used to tweet about him on a daily basis.
But the kicker? Anonymous GOP members told Politico:
“He’s [Elon] finished, done, gone. He polls terribly. People hate him… he’d go to Wisconsin thinking he can buy people’s votes, wear the cheese hat, act like a 9-year-old.
... It doesn’t work. It’s offensive to people.”
Even on the official White House account and some of Trump’s senior advisors, mentions of Elon have completely stopped.
I mean, you know it’s bad when Republican Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia told Politico that although Elon is a “patriot”, he went too far.
In addition to all of this, Trump also stopped using Elon’s name to fundraise money to his online supporters. Up until early March, Elon was mentioned almost on a daily basis in those emails.
Since the beginning of March, he’s only been in one email.
Although White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that DOGE’s work will continue, she did not mention Elon Musk in her statement.
In late April, only 35% of Americans said they approve of Elon’s job performance for the Trump administration. A whopping 57% said they disapprove. 56% said they think Trump is going too far in laying off federal workers.
For the people who believe the layoffs are going too far, Elon had a 89% disapproval rating.
Although Elon donated a total of $288 million to Trump and Republican candidates, seems like the bought out friendship lasted for only three months.
The reason for this falling out could be a symptom of many things. Elon’s approval ratings went down quickly, as people globally started rioting Tesla. Tesla sales are down, their Q1 earnings call was a disaster, and he’s just not resonating with the masses. He also recently blew millions of dollars on a Wisconsin Supreme Court election which people on the left rightfully ridiculed him for.
The global boycotting and protesting actually worked.
The bromance between Donald Trump and Elon Musk was always transactional, brittle, and built on ego rather than any shared vision or values. Once Elon became a liability—polling terribly, drawing public backlash, and dragging down Trump’s image—he was discarded like so many others in Trump’s orbit.
This pattern is nothing new; Trump uses people as long as they serve his interests and then cuts them loose without a second thought.
What’s different this time: the public is catching on.
Let this be a lesson: when billionaires and politicians team up under the guise of “efficiency” and “patriotism,” it’s usually the people who end up paying the price.
Trump got what he wanted, someone who would destroy the federal government and take the heat for it.
Musk got everything he wanted, and more, including our data. He's rewired the federal systems with AI and is destroying all the backups. He holds the AI keys through Grok.
He acquired major government contracts and silenced the agencies that could investigate him and his nefarious dealings or safety protocols.
Musk is now building more national and international dependency on his Starlink satellite system, including Internet control.
This party ain't over.
