I heavily contemplated writing this article, but if no one else will say it, I will.
The people who call themselves “Israelis”, who live on the actively occupied stolen land, who voted for Netanyahu and have remained largely silent for the past years of this genocide, are not doing enough and are to blame for the mass genocide of innocent Palestinians.
Before you come at me, know that I understand many of their families faced various forms of persecution, and that is why they sought refuge in a country nice enough to bring them in.
That does not justify their supremacist, racist, “God's chosen people” mentality that has justified the genocide of hundreds of thousands of innocent Palestinians who have already lived in an open-air prison for the majority of their lives.
Last night, Israel massacred the remaining team of Al Jazeera journalists it had working in the Gaza Strip. They were sleeping in their media tent, and an Israeli drone hit the tent at around 11:35 pm. For those of you who do not know, Al Jazeera was the last remaining news source that still had a team working out of Gaza.
There are no more mass media journalists left in the Gaza Strip.
As I scrolled through my feed, which was overtaken by this news, I couldn’t help but feel uncontrollable anger. Some creators can manage their anger better than others; in the past, I have had to put my phone down before making a video. This time was different, though; the anger I felt was towards the larger Israeli society, which has sat back and watched this happen for years. The society who justifies these attacks based on supremacist talking points. The society that is convinced they are “god’s chosen people”, the ones who believe they are entitled to property that is not theirs due to an imaginary prophecy, the ones who point at you and call you antisemitic without doing any inner work to understand why they are the problem.
Before you jump at me, know that I understand not *all* Israelis subscribe to this ideology, but when 78% of Jewish Israelis believe that the IDF makes “substantial efforts to avoid necessary suffering in Gaza” and another 62% of them believe in “evacuating Palestinians from Gaza, even by force and military means” you can’t blame me for wondering if this genocide would’ve gotten this far had the people in Israel done something meaningful. These numbers are from 2025, years after October 7th, and after loads of proof published showing that what is happening in Gaza is nothing short of war crimes and intentional murdering of innocent civilians.
The thing is, for the betterment of the world after October 7th, people across this planet have stood up against the clear atrocities that have been happening in Gaza. But for some reason, up until recently, the protests in Israel have surrounded the release of hostages. I am also not talking about people “protesting Netanyahu's government” because even before October 7th, Netanyahu only had a 40% approval rating. So no, their protesting against Netanyahu wasn’t unexpected or an unpopular opinion even before 2023, and I’m not going to act like I’m impressed by it either.
In the past couple of months, I’ve seen more and more reports that “thousands” of people in Tel Aviv are joining antiwar protests demanding an end to Israel’s onslaught and lifting the siege in Gaza. But why did it take so long for even a small minority in Israel to come to this conclusion? For a country with millions of people, I’m not impressed by their delayed advocacy that only includes a sliver of the larger majority.
Across from the war crimes their government and people (by proxy of the government) are committing, they have even had civilians who took time out of their day to block aid trucks and destroy humanitarian aid meant for starving civilians. If I were to go through the complacency of the majority of Israeli civilians who have hyped up the slaughter of Palestinians, this would be a 50-page essay, not a newsletter.
At this point, the protests in Israel are parades. No meaningful change or action is happening from it, and when the majority of the country still believes that their made-up prophecy is correct, you can’t expect much from them.
We need more people to refuse to join the IDF. We need more people to say the war crimes they committed in Gaza vocally. We NEED Israeli people to do more, because real change comes from mobilizing from within, and I'm afraid they haven’t done much to achieve that.
Mandatory IDF service? REJECT IT.
More occupation of the West Bank? REJECT IT.
The government is not allowing aid to go in? GO THERE AND PHYSICALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I can go on and on, but the Israeli society is hiding behind the veil of their supremacist beliefs, which to them justifies everything they are doing. Frankly, I find it pathetic.
For now, the American government will still financially be Israel’s sugar daddy. In time, my generation and generations after me will run and take office. Given that the majority of America, regardless of what party they align with, loathe Israel, it's only a matter of time before we have a new generation of lawmakers who will do the work Israelis never cared to do. Stand up to the country and oppose foreign aid, since the world also hates Israel by a majority, and more and more will follow our lead as well.
Mark my words, this day will come.
At the heart of all of this is a simple, undeniable truth: silence is complicity. What is happening in Gaza is not a mystery… it is documented and witnessed by the world.
And yet, for far too long, the majority of Israeli society has chosen comfort over confrontation, nationalism over nuance, and supremacy over solidarity. They’ve hidden behind the trauma of the past to justify the violence of the present.
But inherited pain does not grant you the right to inflict it upon others.
This genocide has persisted because too many people, especially within Israel, have refused to face the reality of what their government and military are doing, or worse, they’ve endorsed it. A society that wants to be seen as democratic and moral cannot turn a blind eye to mass suffering and then expect the world’s sympathy.
You cannot demand global silence when your drones are the ones ending journalists' lives in their sleep.
The international community is awakening. People across the globe are organizing, protesting, and calling out this injustice, and yes, a future is coming where the balance of power will shift. But meaningful change must also come from within. Israelis must choose between the violent path of blind nationalism or the difficult, necessary road of accountability and humanity.
History is watching.
The world is watching.
And your silence, your complicity, will not be forgotten.
There are no inaccuracies in a single sentence in this entire article. The people who benefit from ethnosupremacy in “Israel”, need to do the hard work of dismantling this supremacy- externally and internally.
Totally agree. Now you'll be accused of anti-semitism.
According to a survey a couple weeks ago very few people are against the genocide. Israeli jews are flippant about the lives of Palestinians. We've all seen the videos of them mocking war crimes and violence against these innocents. The majority of Israeli jews are complicit in murder and while I hope they are brought to the heaviest final justice I don't have faith that our governments will do it.
