Let today's news update inspire you to mobilize within your community to effect change, because always remember: together, we are more powerful than the ruling class.
Protests that started less than 48 hours, led by Gen Z across the nation, triggered a successful revolution and the resignation of their prime minister, KP Sharma Oli. Protestors broke in and set Nepal’s parliament building on fire, as they danced and chanted around the fires.
This uprising was far from nonviolent, as at least 22 people have been killed and dozens more were injured. Although mass media have reported that this protest was due to a country-wide ban on social media apps, the Nepalese people reject this narrative, as the reality of what sparked the protests was actually their corrupt government.
The social media ban only exacerbated the existing tension between the people and their government. The students from colleges and universities across Nepal’s major cities, like Pokhara, Kathmandu, and Itahari.
Their demands were precise:
Officials putting an end to what they call “corrupt practices.”
The government lifting the ban on social media
The protests became so intense that protesters set fire to the former first lady’s home as she died trapped inside. According to her family, she was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
On the other hand, the video shows Nepal’s finance minister Paudel being chased, kicked, and assaulted on the streets. Other videos show him getting chased in a river, as protestors forced him to strip his clothes.
Currently, the future of Nepal’s leadership remains unclear.
What transpired in Nepal is a stark reminder of how fast a generation pushed to the limits can become unstoppable. Although the cost has been horrifically high, the message is clear: when power is abused and voices are silenced, people will revolt.
This wasn't just about a social media ban — it was about deep-seated, systemic corruption and a government that refused to listen. Nepal's youth would not be swayed, and by not being swayed, they sparked a revolution that led to the removal of the leadership.
Let this serve as a message to ruling classes everywhere: when people have nothing more to lose, they will make themselves heard — with or without permission.
I hope you have the proper motives captured and this is not another US backed color revolution intended to capture Nepal as another colonial outpost for the empire.
Good for them! Power to the people!✊🏿
