A family of three and their three dogs from North Carolina were found dead in their house a few days after they were disconnected from power due to an overdue amount of more than $2,000 for their utility bill.
That is a downright shame that this family lost their lives over an electric bill. The electric company should have accepted at least the partial payment. With these soaring temperatures it is dangerous for anyone to be without power.
Thank you for bringing this to the nations attention. Sadly this happened in a small city about 60 miles from my home. It’s made the local news for a few days. Nothing had been reported as to the cause of death but some of the neighbors reported that a generator may have been used in their house. They would have had inside because if they left it outside it would have been stolen.
Let me guess it’s probably an AI data center somewhere nearby, sucking up all the energy and then passing the cost to the community. This is so sad to read.
So a city's electric company committed manslaughter over extorting a $2000 bill this family was stuck with paying. Got it! Arrest and charge each executive of that electrical company with criminally negligent homicide, fraud and corruption!
No way a utility should be able to cut someone's service off for a unpaid balance. Someone offered to help pay a portion and they refused. Someone in that company needs to be held accountable for this tragic outcome.
We really need to understand that in the current incarnation, most govt agencies are designed to facilitate corporate wealth extraction. And in this case, the City is the “owner” of the utility company. They didn’t know the impact of disconnecting electricity? 🙄🙄🙄
