It’s simple: polling shows that about three-quarters of Democratic voters say they are “extremely motivated” to cast their ballots in the 2026 midterm elections.
This is a HUGE increase from four years ago. I know what you’re thinking: voting isn’t enough, it’s too little too late, and we should’ve done more when we could’ve. Although you are right, this poll will significantly change the trajectory of our future.
American history has shown us that whenever we veer too far to the right, the elections that follow tend to result in a leftward shift. We are witnessing this now on a local level with Zohran Mamdani in New York; we have seen a similar phenomenon in the past, when Obama was elected after Bush’s disastrous presidency. If we even gain the House back, we can put a stop to or fight well against Trump and his insane agenda.
Now, 72% of democrats and left-leaning voters say that they are “extremely motivated” to vote in the next election, according to a CNN poll this month. Only 50% of Republicans reported feeling the same way.
The last time this happened, House Democrats gained 23 seats and took control of the House, which was also the year we gained more progressive members, such as Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.
Even with these statistics, though, the Democrats have a long road ahead of them. Understandably, only 28% of the respondents said they view Democrats favorably. Only 33% said that they view the Republicans favorably.
People are tired of the establishment Democrats and Republicans. They want change, and they want it now.
At this point, it doesn’t matter what Republicans do. A lot of their base is angry at the Epstein file debacle, and honestly, I can’t blame them for it. A lot of other Trump voters didn’t think he was going to do everything he promised, and some people just sat these elections out because of political fatigue.
How you can help
Yes, the midterms feel like they are very far away. That doesn’t matter, though, because there is groundwork that you can do.
Get involved locally; for example, I am in New York, and Zohran Mamdani’s campaign has been a huge deal out here. Helping local campaigns in whatever capacity I can, whether that’s financially, through phone banking, or volunteering, makes a huge difference.
Try to get your family and friends on board, and make sure they are all registered to vote. I know some people are more stubborn than others, but every vote counts, especially if you live in a swing county with a crucial race.
Keep educating! The more you post and discuss the climate we live in, the more motivated people will be when the time comes to take action.
The path ahead is challenging, but the momentum is undeniable. With historic levels of enthusiasm among Democratic and progressive voters, we’re witnessing a potential turning point, one that could shift the balance of power and steer the country away from the dangerous direction of far-right politics.
Yes, doubt toward both major parties is growing, and that frustration is valid. But the numbers don’t lie: when turnout is high, especially among energized and informed voters, real change becomes possible.
This isn’t just about reclaiming seats, it’s about building a future that reflects justice, equity, and accountability. Local action, community engagement, and persistent education are how we get there.
The midterms aren’t some distant battle; they begin now, with what you choose to do today.
I am very involved locally, nationally, and to some extent globally. The GOP is stabbing the nation & the world in the back while we let them. He and his minions should be arrested now. Do you think they aren't doing everything to cheat or stop the next election? Wake up. 3/4s of Dem voters? That's it? What are we doing about the gerrymandering? What are we doing while racists (ICE) are stealing people to fill a quota? We have to do a lot more. F**k the high road, unless we have boulders to roll down on them.
