"But here’s the thing: you can’t only blame Trump for this." No question. The immigration industrial complex is a concerted, decades-long, bipartisan effort. Republicans are just happy to take credit for it.

I have an idea. How about the invest in ways to HELP people who are here legally and are waiting years for the government to process their applications by updating computer systems, software, and streamlining the process so it's easier and less time and energy-consuminng for both immigrants and immigration officers.

It's a hurricane of language even I, as a college educated American have trouble understanding; a flurry of forms and applications; innumerable strict rules; incomplete "instructions for form [insert form # here)"; and confusing directions as to what, where and when forms should be sent and with how much money. Oh, and if your application is rejected by falling into one of the gazillion traps..no refunds.

Let's just make it easier to find any reason, sometimes imagined, to remove people, American citizen or not, from our country because it's not about making things easier for people to come here and make a good life is it?

Once again speechless. Could not have said it better myself.

Well said. And deadly accurate, I’m afraid. - I wish I had some insight and experience to somehow temper or contradict your conclusions, but unfortunately the considerable time I spent working for a boutique investment bank that funded most of Silicon Valley’s semiconductor, and subsequent tech evolutions- I can tell you from an insiders’ view: the sausage making is even uglier and even scarier than you think. And absolutely nobody gives a fig about the ethical, human, and yes, eventually self-defeating inevitable conclusion of developing and funding technology such as this to the Nth degree. Telling these people how bad this is does not matter; they already know. They simply do not care.

Some other counteracting force must emerge to stop the inertia that is presently hurtling us toward a very grim conclusion indeed.
