House Republicans are quietly weighing cuts to federal health care programs to help fund a massive budget package, one that could include up to $200 billion for the Iran war and expanded immigration enforcement.

The Normandy night was thick and black,
When paratroopers hit the track.
They fell from planes in sudden flight,
Into the peril of the night. 🪂
The hedgerows held a hidden snare,
With enemies waiting everywhere.
But in the shadows of the farm,
A neighbor reached to shield from harm. 🌳
The French Resistance moved with care,
To breathe the heavy midnight air.
They knew the orchards and the lanes,
To break the occupier's chains. 👣
A cellar floor or loft of hay,
Became a refuge from the day.
They shared their bread and meager wine,
To keep the American line. 🥖
With German patrols on every street,
They muffled every heavy beat.
To hide a pilot or a scout,
While tyranny was all about. 🤫
The Maquis wore no uniform,
But stood against the gathering storm.
They guided soldiers through the mire,
Away from deadly cannon fire. 🗺️
Through secret paths and rivers wide,
They kept the Allies by their side.
To reach the lines of safety then,
And rejoin all their fighting men. 🛶
The risk was great for every soul,
To reach the liberation goal.
If villagers were caught or seen,
The punishment was harsh and keen. ⚠️
Yet courage burned in every heart,
To play their indispensable part.
For freedom is a common tongue,
That's bravely spoken by the young. 🗣️
The Distinguished Service Cross was earned,
For lessons that the world had learned.
That ordinary folks can rise,
With justice in their weary eyes. 🏅
They provided intelligence and aid,
Within the deadly masquerade.
To bring the wanderers back home,
Across the fields and salty foam. 🌊
A lantern in a window pane,
Against the cold and driving rain.
Is how the French began the fight,
To lead us onward to the light. 🕯️
So let us honor every name,
That fanned the democratic flame.
For when we help a brother stand,
We save the spirit of the land. ✨
