Republicans Refuse to Swear in New Democrat Congresswoman, in Hopes of Delaying Epstein File Release
This story is genuinely insane, and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it.
House Republican Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is refusing requests from Democrats to swear in newly elected Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) on Tuesday. He continues to delay until the “House returns to session”. Why? Because they want to pull out all the stops to postpone the Epstein file release.
The petition that will force a vote on a bill to release the Epstein files needs one more signature, and that’s of Adelita Grijalva. Even though she was elected fair and square in her special election, Republicans do not care. Swearing her in would mean that Democrats would have the signatures they need to force a vote on the Epstein file release, and Republicans don’t want that.
Grijalva, who is replacing her late father, has already vowed to sign the discharge petition the minute she is sworn into office. Bipartisan lawmakers are pushing to release the Epstein file as soon as possible, and Grijalva is a key figure in this effort.
During Tuesday’s pro forma session, Republicans refused to recognize the Democrats who were shouting on the floor as they tried to force a vote on the proposal to keep the government open. They did not swear in Grijalva at that time, even though Florida Republicans were sworn in during a pro forma session earlier this year on April 2.
The speaker of the House is saying that they will swear Grijalva in on October 7 during the next regular session, but that is uncertain.
Although the petition to release the Epstein files is bipartisan, only three republicans have signed on to it. Marjorie Taylor Green, Nancy Mace, and Lauren Boebert.
Arguably the most bigoted ones of them all but, a win is a win I guess.
This entire situation is a blatant abuse of power and a disturbing reminder of how far some will go to keep explosive information from the public eye. Refusing to swear in a duly elected representative, solely to block the release of the Epstein files, sets a dangerous precedent.
It’s not just undemocratic; it’s an affront to transparency and justice. Whether or not you agree with Adelita Grijalva's political views, she was elected by the people and deserves to take her seat. The American public deserves answers, not more political games.
The clock is ticking, and delaying tactics won’t hold forever…eventually, the truth comes out.
Can't the Democrats just swear her in? This is just like the refusal to swear in Merrick Garland to Supreme Court. Democrats need to outright object, hold a sit-in, do something.
Wake up. They haven't been obeying any laws for a long time, about 24 years now...
